what WE need YOU to do for us

We need you to fill the role of Parent Educator. This is a FULL TIME, EXEMPT position. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

  • Assists families in identifying strength based client-focused goals to meet needs and overcome barriers, and delivers services in accordance with strength based client-focused goals.
  • Maintains a culturally sensitive and respectful approach with clients by valuing the differences of parents, children and professionals of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Utilizes strong interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships with a diverse group of parents, children, and professionals who may not share the same value system, beliefs, or morals.
  • Provides individual parent education during home visits and/or group-based parent education classes using evidence-based curriculums.
  • Plans and aligns all tasks with consideration of client goals and overall Strong Start program goals. Individual plans are created for each client to ensure efficient progression through the parent education curriculum with progress assessed at regular intervals.
  • Makes sound decisions that help the client progress towards self-identified goals, while ensuring the safety of everyone including reporting all concerns of alleged or validated child abuse and/or neglect to the Program Manager, and possibly to the CPS Child Abuse Hotline. Knows to seek help in making these determinations.
  • Displays a high level of resiliency by adapting to necessary changes or unforeseen circumstances in programming, and helping clients remain on track with personal goals in times of crisis and setbacks.
  • Maintains accountability through weekly supervision with his/her supervisor which ensures the Parent Educator is maintaining client files, using measurements for client success, keeping up with data entry and assessing outcomes/outputs.
  • Responsible for the ongoing assessment of potential risk to the people we serve, staff, volunteers and the community; works with staff to ensure proper notification of program and other risks.

to be successful in this role, WE’LL need YOU to

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood development, social work, education or a related field. MA degree in social work or a related field preferred.
  • Have 2 years of experience working with vulnerable or at-risk families. 
  • Possess good organizational skills, as well as ability to effectively plan and schedule. Is able to manage a diverse number of projects and complete them in a timely manner.
  • Have valid Infant/Child CPR and First Aid card to be acquired before serving children.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and insurance as a driver.
  • Be knowledgeable of healthy childhood development, the impact of abuse/neglect/trauma on development, and the signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Be able to provide home visits on evenings and/or weekends (as needed), and on an emergency basis.
  • Be knowledgeable of various community resources and services that may benefit families served and is able to effectively collaborate with various entities for the benefit of the client.
  • Be physically able to SAFE and carry small children, and has good physical stamina.
  • Be able to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive services.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well as submit to a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.

how WE’LL make it worth YOUR while

  • We will pay you an annual salary of $38,000 - $40,000
  • We’ll pay for your medical, life and short-term disability insurance.
  • We will give you 15 accrued paid time off days in the first year, and 22 days in the second year, capping out at 30 days after year seven.
  • We’ll pay you for our six agency holidays and four additional personal holidays to be used at your discretion.
  • We’ll contribute 2% to your 403(b) retirement, and we’ll kick in an additional 1% if you agree to match it.
  • We understand that you have commitments outside of the workplace, and we’ll do our very best to offer you some flexibility in your work schedule.
  • We’ll offer you discounted day care for your kiddos at our day care center, as enrollment allows.
